Important Information For Sellers

Thinking of selling your good quality baby and children's things at our sale? Here is some more information for sellers.

First off, thank you for getting involved in the sale - it's a great help to parents and will raise money for the NCT - our local Harrow branch and the national charity.

Second - please note - this sale is for baby, toddler and preschool things only. We will also be checking the quality of the items extremely carefully to make sure that we really are a 'nearly new' sale! This is important - our sales are so popular because they offer great quality at a good price, we don't want to descend into a jumble sale!

Our sale is a ticket sale not a table top sale so you will not be selling your items yourself, they will all be displayed together by volunteers. This is great as you don't need to worry about dealing with money or haggling with buyers yourself, and buyers find it helpful as we can group all things on sale into categories (e.g. sizes of clothes).

Once registration to be a seller is open, places are allocated in order of application.

How much does it cost to sell at the Nearly New Sale?
You will need to complete the registration form and pay a £5 non-refundable registration fee. The registration fee is not a deposit and you will not get it back. It is used to cover the cost of the tickets, envelopes, printing, postage and publicity for the sale. You will receive 70% of the sale price of your items, with the remaining 30% going to the NCT.

How does it work?
Once you register you will be sent a pack containing a label for your box and 80 tickets for your items.
You will need to label each item with:
1) your seller number
2) the item description (e.g. 'pink jumper')
3) size
4) price (which you decide) All prices must be in multiples of 50p (e.g. 50p, £1, £1.50 etc.) Ask yourself ‘how much would I pay for this?’ and ‘do I want to take this home at the end of the sale or should I price it to make sure it sells?’.
All four things should be the same on the top and bottom of the ticket (do not tear the tickets apart). The labels should be attached to items with safety pins or string- please avoid using sellotape unless absolutely necessary - and then only to the top part of the ticket. (These two-part tickets are how we keep track of what has been sold - at the cash desk we need to tear the bottom part off)

All your labelled items need to be dropped off at the venue on the day of the sale between 10.00am and 10.45am in a box labelled with your seller number and in additional boxes and bags. If you need your bags and boxes back at the end of the sale please make sure they are clearly labelled with your seller number. To make life easier for our volunteers, please put clothes on hangers and group them by gender and size.

Our volunteers will display your items for sale. After the sale our volunteers will pack unsold items away.

You will need to collect your unsold items between 4.15pm and 4.45pm.
Please remember to check the lost items table before you leave.

Although every care will be taken with the security of your sale goods, the NCT cannot accept responsibility for labels that become detached and lost, or for lost and damaged items. All items are left at the owner’s risk. We cannot compensate you for lost, stolen or damaged items.

You don't need to be a NCT member to be a seller (but we'd love it if you did join our branch!).
Our Nearly New Sales have been awarded the Gold Standard. This accolade recognises that the branch’s sales are among the best in the UK, both in terms of providing a valuable service for new and expectant parents and achieving fantastic fundraising success for NCT charity.

  • We will only sell items that are of new or nearly new quality and are clean and in good condition. Please ensure all toys are in working order, nothing is broken, there are no pieces missing and all items are in a secure bag or box.
  • If you are unable to sell after all please let us know ASAP. Failure to show up at the sale may mean you are not allocated a number at future sales.
  • All buyers will be given your seller number due to our new ticketing system. If they have problems and have spent over £15, they may be given your contact details.
  • Please note that large prams, cots and travel-systems do not sell well if overpriced. Do tell volunteers at the sale if you are willing to accept less for any of these large pieces of equipment. We can also display advertisements on a notice board.

WE CANNOT SELL THE FOLLOWING:
  • Mains powered electrical equipment (incl. monitors)
  • Free toys such as those given away at restaurants or with comics
  • Car seats, riding hats or crash helmets
  • Pushchairs and prams with a brake on only one wheel, or without the BSI kite mark or written instructions.
  • Mattresses
  • Breast pumps, bottles or teats
  • SOFT OR CUDDLY TOYS
  • Fireguards
  • Video tapes
  • "bag-type" slings such as Infantino sling rider, Premaxx baby bag, Munchkin cargo sling, Boppy carry in comfort, Lamaze close comfort and Wendy Bellissimo sling as these slings have been shown to be unsafe. Other types of slings are ok.

Would you like to volunteer on the day?
Volunteers benefit from refreshments, the opportunity to shop before the sale starts, and the satisfaction of making a great event happen! When you register as a seller, there is a box to tick at the end of the form if you'd be interested.

Again, thank you so much for helping our charity to raise money. NCT supports over a million parents every year and our Nearly New Sales are a crucial part of our fundraising, as well as a great chance to help local parents to find bargains and turn their unwanted things into cash.
